The Arts Centre in Spijkenisse is being renovated and expanded

As part of the renewal of the city centre, the Centrum voor de Kunsten in Spijkenisse is being renovated, expanded and made more sustainable. For more than 40 years, the centre has been a conception in Spijkenisse and with this expansion it will be preserved for the municipality of Nissewaard. The municipality of Nissewaard, owner Manhave, construction company Van Waning and installation company Airlet Continental have signed the agreement for the renovation, which is expected to be completed after the summer of 2025.

Expansion

The Centrum voor de Kunsten is expanding with two extra floors, allowing the arts and culture offering to grow further. There will be practice rooms for bands and the theatre will be enlarged for small-scale performances. In addition, the expansion offers space for various other art forms and new media.

Renovation

The facilities are being modernised and made more sustainable. Thanks to the expansion, there will be catering and publicly accessible toilets. The new design will be more transparent due to the addition of extra windows, while at the same time the building will be better insulated, get solar panels and will be completely off gas.

Spijk Stairs

Two wide, green-clad stairs will better connect the Nieuwstraat and Uitstraat. The height difference between the Uitstraat and the Nieuwstraat is often experienced as an interruption of the walking route to the centre. This has now been solved in a creative way.

The municipality of Nissewaard and the Centrum voor de Kunsten are enthusiastic about the expansion. This will allow them to enrich the range with music, theatre, dance and spatial design. The redevelopment will also contribute to a more vibrant city centre and reduce vacancy. Xenos has now been moved to Breestoep 4, which means that vacancy in the centre has been filled.
