The number of homeless people in Rotterdam has grown again this year, the need for help continues to increase. We believe it is important to help people, especially in these dark winter months. Just like in previous years, we therefore support Arie, a construction manager, husband, father and foster father, who helps the Leger Des Heils in Rotterdam with the distribution of Christmas packages.

In recent years, we at Manhave Vastgoed, have chosen not to send Christmas gifts to relations. This year, we will continue to do so, because we prefer to help people who can really use the help. We have made a donation to the church community that Arie and his family are a part of. Arie in turn donates the entire budget to the Leger Des Heils, so that the homeless in Rotterdam can get the helping hand they deserve.

Interview with Arie

Last year we supported Arie in his generosity towards the Leger Des Heils. This generosity comes not only in the form of a monetary donation, but also time, energy and love. We find Arie to be such an inspiring and warm person, we wanted to know more about who he is and what he does. That is why we spoke extensively with Arie about his life and his boundless help to people in need. You can read the entire interview here.

Steven Manhave met Arie during a work visit to a construction site where Arie was working. Steven started talking with Arie and learned about his experiences as a foster father of four foster children. Foster parenting gives Arie and his wife a lot of satisfaction. Steven was very moved by this and felt the need to support Arie by making a donation. But Arie could not accept this donation and asked Steven if he wanted to give the contribution to the Leger Des Heils in Rotterdam instead. That was a no brainer for Steven. This year too, the choice to support Arie and the Leger Des Heils was quickly made.

Christmas packages for the homeless in Rotterdam

Arie, together with the Leger Des Heils, annually puts together Christmas packages with food that can be consumed on the street. This means: food that people do not need a kitchen for, so that all homeless people can use all the products. In addition to food, the Christmas packages also contain other things, such as a hat, shawl or underwear.

The supermarket in the village where Arie and his family live makes the store available after closing time for filling the Christmas packages. The youth of the local church are involved in this process, which Arie finds very uplifting and important. These young people also tag along going towards Rotterdam to help distribute the Christmas packages. Because the village where they live is fairly 'protected', it is good for the youth to gain more insight into how other people live. The Christmas packages are distributed in several places in Rotterdam.
